Why an internship?

Practical experience is key to landing a position in the facility management industry. Internships are the best ways for students to gain this much needed experience and get a foot in the door. They provide students the opportunity to get a true feel for the business and its rigorous requirements as well as a chance to pinpoint their area of interest before entering “the real world”.

What to Look For...

There are a wide variety of internships available, so it is important to find one that pertains to your area of interest. Each facility type (arena, stadium, performing arts, convention center, etc.) has its own operational nuances. In addition, individual facilities may offer experiences in multiple facets of building functions, such as: operations, marketing, production, and business/accounting. Finally, take into consideration and your financial needs; not all internships are compensated.

For Venues Wanting to Post Internship Opportunities:

If you would like to add internships that are offered at your facility, please post your message to "Internship Postings" message forum (see below).

The Process is Simple:

1. Click on the Internship Posting Message Forum Link (link opens a new window)
2. You must create a message forum account. The benefit of registering will enable you to edit and/or delete your posts. Registration takes only a few minutes.
3. Click "New Topic", complete the necessary fields (subject and message body), hit "Preview" to proofread your internship posting, and then click "Submit".

What to include:

• Internship Geographic
• Deadline to apply,
• Duration of internship,
• Brief description of work entailed,
• Estimated Work Hours,
• Whether the internship is paid or not, and
• Contact Information -- so that the prospective student has what they need in deciding whether to apply or not.
